Building Progress and Blue Tape

Although the heavens have opened and poured beautiful spring rains on the Valley, and the builders were unable to work today, at least by last night the cottage was roof height. Praise God!

The windows and doors are in place; even the one entering the existing building which will be the bedroom

The roof trusses are next. Grant and Steve ordered the wood from the local hardware. On Monday, using my lounge and veranda they built their first truss ever. Once the weather clears and Amon the builder fits the first truss, they will know if they succeeded with dimensions and measurements. Then they'll build all the others. They're pretty pleased with themselves even now. No thought for the mess of my lounge which still has the huge saw in it!
The truss which the men designed and made on Monday this week
As always, Shadow is inquisitive and checks on the strange objects in his path

The patio is also a mess but that's how it is with building...

On Wednesday, the architect came after the fact and said she needed the building process to date to be signed off.  She'd already arranged with a local civil engineer to do the job and his quote was astronomical. Grant who, like I,  grew up in the KZN midlands, has a qualified civil engineer friend who is doing the necessary for a fraction of the price.

The owner of this house (now due back from Australia) was ecstatic. She said Grant is like a saviour having helped her to save money on many occasions already!

HAVE A HAPPY THURSDAY!
